- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 2 cups milk (whole or 2%)
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- ½ tsp salt (adjust to taste)
- ½ tsp black pepper
- ¼ tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
- ½ tsp Italian seasoning
- 1 tbsp olive oil
Instructions
- Cook the Pasta & Broccoli
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the penne according to package instructions. In the last 3 minutes, add the broccoli florets. Drain and set aside. - Start the Sauce
In a large skillet, heat olive oil and butter over medium heat. Add garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant. - Make the Cream Base
Sprinkle in the flour and whisk constantly for 1 minute. Slowly pour in the milk and heavy cream, whisking until smooth. - Add the Cheese
Stir in cheddar and Parmesan cheese. Keep stirring until melted and creamy. - Season It Up
Add salt, pepper, Italian seasoning, and red pepper flakes if using. Taste and adjust seasoning. - Combine Everything
Add the cooked pasta and broccoli to the sauce. Toss until everything is well coated. - Serve
