Description

This Broccoli Cheese Pasta Recipe is the ultimate comfort meal—creamy, cheesy, and loaded with tender broccoli and perfectly cooked pasta. It’s a quick, family-friendly dish that comes together easily, making it perfect for busy weeknights when you still want something warm and satisfying on the table.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 oz penne pasta
  • 3 cups broccoli florets (fresh or frozen)
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk (whole or 2%)
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • ½ tsp salt (adjust to taste)
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ¼ tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
  • ½ tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

Instructions

  1. Cook the Pasta & Broccoli
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the penne according to package instructions. In the last 3 minutes, add the broccoli florets. Drain and set aside.
  2. Start the Sauce
In a large skillet, heat olive oil and butter over medium heat. Add garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.
  3. Make the Cream Base
Sprinkle in the flour and whisk constantly for 1 minute. Slowly pour in the milk and heavy cream, whisking until smooth.
  4. Add the Cheese
Stir in cheddar and Parmesan cheese. Keep stirring until melted and creamy.
  5. Season It Up
Add salt, pepper, Italian seasoning, and red pepper flakes if using. Taste and adjust seasoning.
  6. Combine Everything
Add the cooked pasta and broccoli to the sauce. Toss until everything is well coated.
  7. Serve
Serve warm with extra Parmesan on top for that irresistible finish.

Notes

For extra protein, add grilled chicken or crispy bacon.

Use freshly shredded cheese for a smoother sauce (pre-shredded can be grainy).

If the sauce gets too thick, add a splash of pasta water or milk to loosen it.
