Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups shredded cooked chicken
- 2 cans refrigerated croissant or crescent roll dough
- 1 package (8 oz) cream cheese, softened
- 1 bunch green onions, finely chopped
- ¼ cup green bell pepper, finely diced
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons butter, softened
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 1 egg, beaten, optional for egg wash
For Homemade Shredded Chicken
- 2 chicken breasts
- 1 cup water or chicken broth
- Salt, to taste
- Black pepper, to taste
- Crushed garlic, optional
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, mix the softened cream cheese and butter until combined.
- Stir in the milk.
- Add the shredded chicken, green onions, diced bell pepper, salt, and black pepper. Mix until evenly combined.
- Unroll one can of croissant dough onto a cutting board. Pinch together the perforated seams between every two triangles to create 4 rectangles. Repeat with the second can.
- Place about ¼ cup of chicken mixture in the center of each dough rectangle.
- Bring the corners toward the center and pinch the dough together to seal the filling inside.
- Arrange the filled croissants on the prepared baking sheet.
- If using the egg wash, whisk the egg and lightly brush it over each croissant.
- Bake for 13–15 minutes, or until puffed and golden brown.
- Allow to cool for a few minutes, then serve warm.
Instant Pot Shredded Chicken
- Pour 1 cup water or chicken broth into the Instant Pot.
- Place the trivet inside and add the chicken breasts.
- Season with salt, pepper, and crushed garlic if desired.
- Close the lid and set the valve to sealing.
- Pressure cook on High for 18 minutes.
- Allow a 20-minute natural pressure release.
- Remove the chicken and shred with two forks.
Notes
- Soften the cream cheese before mixing for a smoother filling.
- Rotisserie chicken is an excellent time-saving option.
- Avoid overfilling the dough or the filling may leak during baking.
- Pinch the dough seams firmly to help keep the croissants closed.
- The egg wash is optional but gives the croissants a shiny golden finish.
- Add shredded cheddar, mozzarella, or pepper jack for an extra cheesy version.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- Reheat in a 350°F oven or air fryer for the best flaky texture.
