Ingredients
1 lb ground beef (80/20)
3 tablespoons taco seasoning (homemade or sugar-free store-bought)
⅔ cup heavy whipping cream
4 large eggs
⅓ cup chunky salsa (preferably no added sugar)
1¼ cups shredded cheddar cheese, divided
½ teaspoon garlic salt (or salt and garlic powder)
¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
Optional toppings:
Sour cream
Diced avocado
Fresh cilantro
Chopped chives
Diced tomatoes
Sliced black olives
Extra salsa
Instructions
1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the oven rack in the center position and lightly grease a 9-inch pie pan with butter or cooking spray.
2. Brown the ground beef: Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook for 7–10 minutes, breaking it apart with a spatula, until fully browned. Drain any excess grease.
3. Season the beef: Add the taco seasoning to the cooked ground beef and stir until evenly coated. Transfer the seasoned beef into the prepared pie pan, spreading it evenly.
4. Prepare the egg mixture: In a medium bowl, whisk together the heavy whipping cream and eggs until smooth. Stir in the chunky salsa, 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese, garlic salt, and black pepper.
5. Assemble the taco pie: Pour the creamy egg mixture evenly over the seasoned ground beef. Sprinkle the remaining ¼ cup shredded cheddar cheese on top.
6. Bake: Bake uncovered for 35–40 minutes, or until the center is set and the cheese topping is golden brown.
7. Rest and serve: Remove from the oven and allow the taco pie to cool for 5 minutes before slicing. Garnish with sour cream, avocado, cilantro, diced tomatoes, or your favorite taco toppings. Serve warm and enjoy!
Notes
Ground Beef: Use 80/20 ground beef for the best flavor and drain excess grease to avoid a soggy pie.
Cheese: Freshly shredded cheddar melts more smoothly than pre-shredded cheese.
Keto-Friendly: Choose sugar-free taco seasoning and salsa without added sugar to help keep carbs low.
Extra Spice: Add diced jalapeños, chili flakes, or cayenne pepper for additional heat.
Make Ahead: Prepare the pie in advance and refrigerate for easy weekday meals.
Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3–4 days.
Freezing: Freeze individual cooked slices for up to 2–3 months for best quality.
Reheating: Reheat in the oven or microwave until the center reaches 165°F.
Serving Suggestion: Pair with cauliflower rice, guacamole, or a fresh green salad.
