Ground Beef Orzo with Tomato Cream Sauce

  • Author: Omar
  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

This Ground Beef Orzo is a creamy one-pot dinner made with tender orzo pasta, savory ground beef, spinach, parmesan cheese, and a rich tomato cream sauce. Ready in just 30 minutes, it’s the perfect comfort food for busy weeknights.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1/2 medium onion, chopped
  • 34 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 cup uncooked orzo pasta
  • 1 (15-ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 3/4 cup beef broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 cup freshly grated parmesan cheese
  • 2 cups packed fresh baby spinach
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Add the ground beef to a large soup pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Cook for 5–6 minutes without stirring.
  2. Add the chopped onion and break the beef into small pieces. Cook for another 5 minutes until the onion softens.
  3. If needed, remove excess grease.
  4. Stir in the garlic, red pepper flakes, Italian seasoning, and orzo. Cook for 1 minute.
  5. Add the tomato sauce, beef broth, heavy cream, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir well.
  6. Bring to a gentle simmer and cook uncovered for 10 minutes, stirring often to prevent sticking.
  7. Remove from heat and stir in the parmesan cheese and spinach.
  8. Cover and let rest for 3–5 minutes until the spinach wilts and the sauce thickens.
  9. Season with salt and pepper and serve immediately.

Notes

Serves 4–6 depending on portion size.

If the mixture becomes too thick while cooking, add a splash of broth or cream.

If the sauce seems thin, let the dish rest for a few minutes before serving.

Freshly grated parmesan melts more smoothly than pre-shredded cheese.

Ground turkey or Italian sausage can be substituted for ground beef.
