Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 3 tablespoons honey
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce (or gluten-free tamari)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil or sesame oil
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
Optional Garnishes:
- 2 tablespoons chopped green onions
- 1 teaspoon sesame seeds
Instructions
- Prepare the Shrimp: Pat the peeled and deveined shrimp dry with paper towels. Season lightly with salt and black pepper.
- Make the Honey Garlic Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together the honey, minced garlic, and soy sauce until well combined. Set aside.
- Cook the Shrimp: Heat olive oil or sesame oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the shrimp in a single layer and sauté for 3–4 minutes, turning halfway through, until they begin to turn pink and opaque.
- Add the Sauce: Reduce the heat to medium. Pour the honey garlic sauce over the shrimp and stir gently to coat evenly. Cook for another 2–3 minutes, stirring frequently, until the sauce is slightly thickened and bubbly and the shrimp are fully cooked (145°F internally).
- Garnish and Serve: Remove from heat and sprinkle with chopped green onions and sesame seeds. Serve immediately with steamed rice, quinoa, or broccoli. Enjoy!
Notes
- Use Large Shrimp: Large shrimp (21–30 per pound) work best for a juicy, tender texture.
- Don’t Overcook: Shrimp cook quickly. Remove them from heat once fully opaque to prevent a rubbery texture.
- Gluten-Free Option: Substitute regular soy sauce with certified gluten-free tamari.
- Spicy Variation: Add ½ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes or 1 teaspoon sriracha to the sauce.
- Thicker Sauce: Stir in a slurry of ½ teaspoon cornstarch and 1 teaspoon cold water if you prefer a thicker glaze.
- Serving Suggestions: Pair with jasmine rice, steamed broccoli, cauliflower rice, or quinoa.
- Storage: Refrigerate leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3–4 days.
- Reheating: Gently reheat in a skillet over low heat until thoroughly heated to 165°F.
- Meal Prep: Divide into four portions with cooked rice and vegetables for easy protein-rich lunches.
